London Beefeaters '50th Anniversary' Golf Classic!

BEEFEATERS SPRING CAMP RECAP

The one-day camp yields positive results in London.

On May 3rd, the London Beefeaters held a one-day Spring Camp giving their recruits an opportunity to show off their skills outdoors, following regular indoor winter workouts held since February. 

The Beefeaters are coming off a trip to the Ontario Conference title game last season and are hungry to get back once again this season. Head coach Matt Snyder was pleased with what he saw during the camp and offers his three important takeaways. 

“We recruited well locally this offseason and had plenty of great young talent that participated all winter, who then had a great showing during our outdoor camp.”  The Beefeaters have had great success in keeping local talent close to home recently.  They are very involved with their local minor association and are starting to see more and more talented local players.  

Coach Snyder saw immediate dividends to their winter workouts this past weekend, “Our commitment to fundamental skill development during the winter translated to the field as our guys understood our drills and this allowed us to be really efficient in getting great work in over the three sessions we ran.”

Teams can have the best schemes in football, but if the coaches are not on the same page, then it’s difficult to be successful. Coach Snyder has high praise for his staff, “The new members of our coaching staff fit in seamlessly and should be great additions to our group with eight of us entering our fourth year together.”

The Beefeaters will now evaluate their talent and prepare for their main camp in a few weeks, before opening the new CJFL season on August 2nd. 

This year marks an incredible milestone in London Beefeaters history - our 50th anniversary! For half a century, we've experienced both joy and disappointment, we've built traditions, formed lifelong bonds, and made memories to last a lifetime!

We're excited to soon be able to share our plans for special events and initiatives to honour our legacy and celebrate the future.

BEEFEATER ALUMNI HONOURED

On May 2, the London Sports Council and the City of London honoured sports volunteers from a variety of sports across the city. Among those honoured were alumni Nathan Caranci and Bruce Maas for their volunteer football coaching along with a very surprised me, Jim Stevenson. Alumnus Dave Martin was also a recipient of the honour but was unable to attend.

OTHER OFC/CJFL NEWS

If you find yourself in Port Dover this summer, check out alumnus Matt Long's Beachside Bites down by the pier. Matt was a Beef from 2012-2015. Great food and always a smile from Matt and his wife, Jodi.

    Congratulations go out to our trainer for the last several years, Mark Elgersma and his son, Taylor. Taylor recently signed with the Green Bay Packers after a great career at Laurier University and Oakridge S.S. here in London.

 Sad news from BC. Long-time BCFC coach, administrator, CJFL Executive Ron White passed away in early May. A full account of Ron’s contribution to junior football can be found on the CJFL Website 

Former Beefeater Coach Conor Elliott coaching with Team Canada in Cagliari, Italy. Canada won 56-0. Other Beefeater alumni involved included Head Coach Jesse Maddox, plus Chris Marshall, Chad Stewart and players Hakeem Johnson, Hayden Amis and Ben von Jagow.

 - The BCFC schedule is out and games on the west coast begin July 19 to accommodate their 10-game schedule.

 - Alumnus Tom Cudney now has his very own CFL Alumni Card

The 4th Annual Beefeater High School Show Case takes place on September 12th at City Wide Sports Field. It features 3 games beginning at 5:00 pm.
