In 2018, the Offensive Player of the Year Award was named in honour of Ron Almeida.

Ron had an outstanding career with the Beefeaters from 1980-1982. In 1980 he was the Ontario Football Conference (OFC) Rookie of the Year and an OFC All-Star Receiver. He followed his rookie season with another OFC All-Star Receiver Award as well as the OFC Statistical Leader in scoring with 109 points and Receiving Leader with 45 receptions.

In his final year, Ron outdid his previous seasons. He was named the Canadian Junior Football League's Offensive Player of the Year, the OFC's Offensive Player of the Year, an OFC All-Star Receiver, the Statistical Leader in scoring with 104 points and the Statistical Leader in Receiving with 48 catches.
